Update 9 June 2016: Lego Dimensions has been around for a little while but there’s a bit update coming as shown off in a new E3 2016 trailer (watch it above). We’ll find out more next week but for now it’s clear that there will be new characters including Voldemort, Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, E.T, Mr.T and Sonic The Hedgehog. New franchises include Adventure Time, The Goonies, Gremlins and Harry Potter. Get saving as it looks like there are plenty of new level- and character packs coming plus new modes. “With more characters joining in on the fun, get ready for the wildest mash-ups this side of the Multiverse. Play through full-movie experiences of the year’s biggest blockbusters with immersive 6-level Story Packs, and prepare for battle in all-new Adventure World Battle Arenas where you can challenge friends in 4-player competitive split-screen. So grab your favorite characters and make room for the new ones to continue the LEGO Dimensions adventure. You’re gonna need a bigger imagination!,” says the Sonic The Hedgehog YouTube channel.
What is Lego Dimensions?
Lego Dimensions is Lego’s answer to the popularity of games such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity, combining physical and virtual games for the ultimate mixture of fun. We’re particularly excited about Lego Dimensions, more so than Skylanders and Disney Infinity, because the additional process of building the vehicles and objects that will find their way into the game is so appealing, as is the ability to modify them and see that modification reflected on screen.

Lego Dimensions features: Gameplay
During E3 2015, Lego revealed more about how exactly the game will work with the Lego Toy Pad, and how you’ll be able to add, customise and control characters as you play. The Toy Pad has various different areas, each of which lights up with multiple coloured LEDs. GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) is Lego Dimension’s artificially intelligent computer system that you’ll find in the Portal games, and is a main character in Lego Dimensions that gives characters difficult puzzles to solve using the Toy Pad itself. Placing characters on different coloured portions of the Toy Pad will allow them to zap to otherwise inaccessible places within the game or scale the characters to make them bigger or smaller, for example. Find out more by watching the video below.
Also exciting is the ability to build and rebuild every vehicle and gadget, and have those changes reflected within the game on-screen. Each vehicle or gadget has three different build options.
