More than two weeks after the serious ‘Follina’ vulnerability was first discovered, Microsoft fixed it and several other bugs. We’d still highly recommend you install it, but it hasn’t been plain sailing for those who already have. The Wi-Fi hotspot feature has been completely broken, while ARM-based machines (such as the Surface Pro X) may have problems signing in to the likes of Outlook, Microsoft Teams and some VPNs. In response, Microsoft has released two emergency security patches – KB5016138 for Windows 11 and KB5016139 for Windows 10....

However, being marked as a saving on the Microsoft website suggests they won’t be around for long. Unfortunately, there are no comparable Duo 2 deals outside the US right now – you’ll still pay at least £1,349 in the UK, for example. M&MX is a consciously retro-feeling affair, harkening back to the first person, turn-based dungeon exploration games of the mid 1990s. The primary change from its ancient predecessors is simply the graphics and a more polished user interface, and frankly neither of those are on the cutting edge either. The Mophie Hold Force Powerstation Plus Mini is a large-capacity battery pack (4,000mAh) that boasts its own built in Lightning (and MicroUSB) connector. It connects to your iPhone 7 magnetically, although this does require a special iPhone case (the Mophie Hold Force Base Case, available for both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus). Mophie claims that the 4,000mAh battery pack will boost your iPhone 7’s battery life by an extra 12 hours, and this beats all the other actual battery cases available for the iPhone 7....

Design The machine certainly looks the part. Narrow and streamlined, it has a small countertop footprint (32cm x 30cm x 17cm) and a sleek, stainless steel-effect finish. You don’t want to be dragging your espresso maker out from the cupboard every time you use it, so it’s best to have a machine you can leave in place: this one will be an attractive addition to your kitchen and, crucially, not take up much space....

Update 31 August: Even though the Moto Z isn’t yet on sale in the UK, Motorola has announced a new member of the family: the Moto Z Play. This is a cheaper version with a headphone jack, and it will cost £369.99 in the UK. Alongside the launch at IFA in Berlin, Motorola also unveiled the latest Moto Mod, the £199.99 Hasselblad True Zoom. This is an optical zoom camera which attaches to the Moto Z series with strong magnets....

Obviously, it loses out on subscription fees when different households share a single account instead of paying for accounts separately. So, the company is testing out the option to “add an extra member”. Account holders will be able to add up to two extra members who don’t live with them (on the Standard and Premium plans) for a subsidised price. Those who share Netflix outside of their immediate household will be targeted and will be notified about the new options....

The firm hasn’t said exactly how thin these new laptops will be, but the tagline of ‘Innovation-First, Thin Gaming’ suggests that Dell is pushing the envelope. You can see the X17 pictured, announced alongside the Alienware m15 R6 and new G15 for 2021. While there’s little to say yet, Dell has said the X-Series will employ an industry-first technology exclusive to Alienware. This is an Element 31 ‘thermal interface material’ that’s made of a ‘Gallium-Silicone matrix’....

Get fitter It comes as a constant surprise to us that buying a Fitbit or other activity tracker doesn’t actually cause any weight-loss. In fact, the only change we’ve noticed is that the bands get a bit tighter as the year wears on, thanks to our increasingly pudgy wrists. It turns out that you actually have to do the exercise yourself!...

Toshiba invented NAND flash at the end of the 1980s, although it may not be the first company you’d think of when looking for an SSD today. Rather than create its own brand of SSDs, it bought one – the bankrupt OCZ Technology Group. Price There’s no difference in price, which means the 6GB / 64GB model costs £449 and the 8GB / 128GB version is £499. As it’s not yet on sale, we don’t know if the old model will drop in price, or whether the new model will costs more on contract than the old one. First up, we’ve reviewed the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, but we don’t love them. Chunky designs and a camera with a lot of room for improvement – so much for Hasselblad’s help – mean for the first time we’re hesitant to recommend the new OnePlus flagships. Luckily things are better when it comes to the Realme 8. Toddy’s reviewed the 8 Pro and come away seriously impressed – though can it quite match the Redmi Note 10 Pro at the exact same price?...

Philips BDM4065UC review: Build and design The design follows that of many modern televisions with a vanishingly small bezel around the panel, gloss black and just 12 mm thick on all edges. This means the image on the screen dominates rather than any added styling of the cabinet, with just a small angled chin in the lower centre of the frame that shows the Philips name badge. A tiny white LED glows when the screen is on, and flashes on and off when in standby mode....

Pricing and availability These two Android phones are some of the most expensive around, though the Pixel 3 XL is Google’s priciest yet, starting at £869, but if you want the 128GB version which matches the capacity of the P20 Pro then you’ll have to stump up £969. In the US those prices are $899 and $999 respectively. And you won’t be able to get a P20 Pro easily, since they’re not sold in the US....
