An update to WhatsApp means you’ll start seeing some blue ticks appearing in message threads. Here we explain why and what they mean. See also: Beware of the latest WhatsApp charging hoax. So far, there has been no way of knowing whether a message you’ve sent via WhatsApp has been read by the recipient. However, that’s about to change with a new version which includes grey and blue ticks. With the new version of WhatsApp, these ticks will appear next to every message you send. A single grey tick means it’s been sent successfully, a second grey tick means it’s been delivered to the other person’s phone. The double blue ticks inform you that the message has been read by the recipient. Now there’s no hiding from whether you’ve read someone’s WhatsApp message.
What time was the WhatsApp message read?
To find out at exactly what time that message was delivered and when it was read, press and hold the message to highlight it, then press the information icon at the top of the screen.
WhatsApp blue ticks in group chats
“In a group chat, the second check marks will appear when all participants in the group have received your message. The two blue check marks will appear when all participants in the group have read your message,” said WhatsApp.
Why haven’t they read my WhatsApp message?
WhatsApp says that if you just see a single check mark next to your message, there is probably nothing wrong with WhatsApp or your phone. The person might not have seen the message for a number of reasons including their phone being off, not having a data connection, or they have simply seen the notification and not opened the app. Tech Advisor’s Reviews Editor, Chris has been reviewing all kinds of tech for over 10 years and specialises in audio.
